I’ve never met with a physical therapist before. What will the first visit be like?

The evaluation will take about 40 minutes. You can expect following visits to be a little shorter. We’ll ask you to fill out required n ew patient registration forms so we have a good idea of your medical history and any past physical problems that might be related to current issues. You’ll meet with your physical therapist, who will review your history, discuss your current concerns, and learn about your personal goals for rehabilitation.

The PT will give you a comprehensive evaluation to determine what's causing your pain, explain the best course of treatment, and what exercises and techniques will help to resolve it. A treatment plan will be developed with you to determine how often you should come in for treatment and also design a home exercise program.

Question 2

What should bring to the first appointment and what should I wear?

Please bring your photo ID and your insurance card (if you're using insurance). We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to ensure you’re set to go. Please fill out required new patient registration forms prior to your appointment so we can start on time.

You should wear or bring loose-fitting clothing, such as shorts or pants with an elastic waistband. We ask our female patients wear or bring a tank top or a sports top so that we can easily access the area being treated. You’re welcome to change at the clinic if that’s most convenient to you.

Will my insurance cover the cost? What do I do if I don’t have insurance?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major medical insurance providers and Medicare, and are preferred providers with Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and TriCare. Not all insurance plans cover physical therapy, so we can assist you in finding out whether your insurance plan includes PT. You can contact our offices and we’ll do our best to help.

If your insurance doesn't cover physical therapy, requires a deductible, or includes a coinsurance payment, the full remaining balance will be due at the time of your appointment. Please check our Insurance and Payment page for our full policies, or contact us directly with questions.

If you don’t have insurance or have a copayment, coinsurance payment, or deductible, you can pay us directly by cash, check, or credit card. All fees are due at the time services are rendered. If you choose to forego insurance and pay out-of-pocket, you’ll receive a discount on your first appointment as our thanks.

Question 4

Do I need my physician to refer me to you before starting physical therapy?

Accepted Answer

Most insurance plans require that you have a referral from a physician, but if you are paying out-of-pocket, you can see a physical therapist without a referral. You can also see us if your physician recommended physical therapy, but did not specifically recommend our clinic. If you’re not sure if you need a referral, please contact us directly and we’ll do everything we can to help.

We can also send a treatment plan and up-to-date status reports to your physician throughout your treatment, whether he or she referred you to us or not.
This is in accordance with California's Direct Access law, which allows patients to receive physical therapy treatment without a physician’s referral for up to 45 calendar days or 12 visits, whichever comes first.

Question 5

How frequently do I need to make physical therapy appointments?

Accepted Answer

The frequency of your appointments will vary depending on your diagnosis. At the end of your first evaluation, your therapist will let you know how often they believe you’ll need to schedule appointments to keep on track with your plan of care. Over time, that frequency will diminish, and soon you’ll be wholly independent, maintaining your own physical wellness without our assistance.
